As owner of a large independent jewellers, Bradley Hatch carries around a lot of must have items which he needs at hand every day.

“I have an awful lot of stuff in my bag”, he laughs “I used to have a brief case but I have swapped it for a large rucksack. It is brilliant, it is a Davidt’s bag, which is a rucksack that also has wheels and a handle tucked discreetly away, so it is really practical. I can have it over my shoulder or pull it like a small case.”

Next year Bradley Hatch Jewellers in Hoveton celebrates its 20th anniversary and he says things have changed enormously since he first opened, in particular at the moment with the demand for classic, vintage second-hand jewellery, which he is passionate about.

“My dad was an antique dealer and I was bought up around auctions and jewellers. I learned so much from him and then I got taken under the wing of Sheringham jeweller Joe Parriss who sadly passed away recently. I feel I got a fantastic grounding,” says Bradley, who is married to Anna and has two teenage daughters.

“I love working in the shop, advising customers on what to look for if they are buying a secondhand piece, even if they aren’t buying it from me.” Bradley Hatch Jewellers, Tunstead Road, Norwich, NR12 8QG, 01603 782233.

Spare Ted Baker tie, prices vary.

“I always have a spare tie in my bag. During the day I have to polish and wash jewellery and I often seem to mess up my tie. I am not particularly brand loyal, I just want a tie that look the part. But I do like Ted Baker.”

Glasses, from Colemans Opticians, St Augustines, Norwich, NR3 3DH. Prices vary.

“At the moment I have three pairs of glasses. I need a pair for close up work and a pair for distance, and got fed up with swapping them around. So I have switched to varifocals. But I am still getting used to them so for now the other pairs stay.”

Digital Dictaphone, Olympus Digital Voice recorder, WS-750M, from £79.

“I find this incredibly useful. I record reminders on it for myself, if I think of something I need to do I just speak into it, then at the end of the day I play it back. I also use it to dictate letters and for meetings. It is a great gadget.”

Camera, Canon G9 , prices vary for new equivalent.

“My passion is photography, especially capturing landscapes and nature. Keeping a compact in your bag is so handy. Often I am driving back form seeing a customer and might spot a sunset on the Broads. I also use it to photograph jewellery.”

Eyeglass, Zeiss, prices vary.

“I always use a Zeiss eyeglass as the quality of the lens is just fantastic. I use it all the time, whether it is to look at the claws of a ring or the quality of a diamond. I also carry gold scales as you never know when you might be asked to weight and value gold.

And a little something else...

Watches

“Representatives from the watch brands that we stock obviously like us to wear their watches while we work as it promotes their products, so if they come in, I can quickly swap round and make sure I have their watch on. It’s not a hardship though as I love watches. My favourite at the moment is by a German company called Junghans.”
