After a month of expectation, Lewis Hamilton has confirmed he is to leave the Woking-based McLaren after signing a three-year deal to race for Mercedes from next season.

The Formula 1 star’s decision is a huge blow to McLaren, who will now have to do without the speed and inspirational talent of a man they have nurtured since he was 13 years old.

Lewis’ early Formula 1 days were spent living close to the McLaren Technology Centre in an apartment near Woking train station, often jogging to work.
