Award-winning TV chef Paul Bloxham samples the new Renault Koleos 2.0 dCi and finds it very much to his taste...
Tell us about yourself and what you doI suppose you could call me a chef and restaurateur, and I live in Welwyn village with my wife and three sons. As well as television work, I run a 17th century gastro pub and restaurant called The Tilbury in Datchworth where, as well as fine dining, we serve up cookery lessons for would-be chefs. We pride ourselves in using local, seasonal produce and as a result our menu is a constantly changing feast.
How much do you enjoy motoring?Cars interest me a lot and I do a lot of driving to and from London studios and commuting around my various restaurants, so it's important that I have a comfortable car that I enjoy driving. I drove for years on L-plates with my mates in the car with me because I was scared of failing the test!
What do you drive and what would your ideal car be?I like driving Porsches, Ferraris, Astons and cars with great performance. I own a MINI Cooper Works and a BMW X3 4x4, which I bought because I love the engine and I could get three baby seats in the back. It is great for cruising along motorways or towing a caravan. My first car was a Lancia Beta and it went like a bat out of hell.
How much are you influenced by badges on the bonnet? Not at all, but I am very influenced by what motoring journalists say about cars. So if they say the engine is really fantastic, than I pay attention to that.
How would a Renault Koleos suit your lifestyle? This car would be 100 per cent right for my lifestyle. It has a lot of equipment, the styling's sexy to look at and it is a very, very comfortable drive. My wife would love it too. The interior feels well made, the seats are lovely and it's got everything I like in a car like sat nav, cruise control, a good sound system and lots more.
How does the Renault Koleos drive? This is very user friendly and has massive appeal to women. It has loads of room and I can feel the 175bhp under my right toe. It corners more like a saloon than a 4x4.
