A stylish Kent Life reader from Godmersham shares her favourite outfit

Tell us a bit about you

My name is Susie Fox. I am married to a GP and I have three grown-up sons.

I started my career as an Accident & Emergency Sister in a London Teaching hospital and left to have a family. I have since worked as an event organiser and PA, predominantly for the High Sheriffs of Kent (see also page xx).

I work freelance for other, mostly local charitable organisations on a project basis. I also act as a sales consultant to a brand of French boutique-style clothing called Captain Tortue. I have always loved clothes and I really enjoy helping women find an outfit they feel good in.

Any spare time I have I like to spend with my family, which usually involves walking our dogs in the beautiful Kent countryside, eating out and, when possible, travelling abroad.

What are you wearing?

I am wearing a biker-style faux leather jacket from the Captain Tortue collection. The colourful scarf is also from this season’s collection and gives the whole outfit a real lift. Under it I have a slightly loose-fitting white sleeveless top tucked into white skinny jeans and coral kitten-heeled shoes with a matching belt. Accessories are essential in finishing off any look and the coral-coloured belt also breaks up the white. I think that once you hit your fifties it can be hard work to feel fashionable without trying to go for a look which is too young. I try to keep it chic and the smart casual look does that for me. Colour is important but less is more as you get older, so I stick to one statement piece in an outfit and tone things down with my summer staple of white trousers and fun shoes with a small heel to give a bit of elegance.

Where do you live?

I am fortunate to live in the beautiful countryside of East Kent. As a family we have been able to walk from our front door straight into the freedom of miles of stunning fields and woodlands - a great plus with three boys and two dogs! We are so blessed in Kent. My friends from far and wide cannot believe that we can go to France for supper, have fish and chips on the beach and be in the centre of London in 38 minutes. I am not sure any other county can boast that.

Where do you like to shop?

I am totally disloyal when it comes to clothes shopping. Naturally I wear a lot of items from the Captain Tortue collection that I sell. I love LK Bennett for glamorous shoes and am a great fan of Zara and House of Fraser’s Untold range. Phase Eight is also somewhere I pick up a few pieces from every year. If you know what suits you and you stick to it you can find lovely clothes in all sorts of places without spending a fortune. But I do I have to confess a weakness for Mulberry handbags.
