Varicose Veins are common. They normally appear as bulging lumps on the calves or thighs which initially present a cosmetic problem but with time may become increasingly symptomatic, causing pain, itching, and occasionally ankle swelling. In severe cases they may lead to bleeding and ulceration.

Many people live in peace with their varicose veins but if you are concerned it maybe worth discussing them with your GP. Treatments range from wearing support stockings, to injections of a chemical into the veins causing them to shrivel up, endovenous treatment which works by destroying the veins with heat using a laser or radio frequency catheter, through to surgical removal of the veins.

The Nuffield Health Brighton Hospital offers a range of treatments for Varicose Veins. We have specialists, including Mike Brooks, Karim El Sakka and Matthew Button who are only too happy to consult and help with any issues you may have.

In October we are running free Varicose Vein advice clinics, for more information or to book an appointment please call 010273 627064
