Spa review - Cottons Spa at Cottons Hotel, Knutsford

Cottons Spa in Knutsford has had a facelift and is looking amazing. It’s the perfect reason to pay a visit.
It’s a long time since I went to the Cottons Spa in Knutsford. In fact so long ago that people were still regarding it as a haunt of Posh and Becks when they were the toast of Cheshire.
I’d taken my partner so we could both have spa treatments, but he’s no Beckham when it comes to massage and facials and afterwards whenever I mentioned hitting the spa, I couldn’t see him for dust, so for my latest visit I took my friend who was at the end of a long and stressful week and in need of a massage.
The Cottons spa has undergone a £1m facelift and is looking very spiffy. There’s a large enticing swimming pool, a reviving steam room and sauna and our favourite - and outdoor hot tub, which we splashed happily in like toddlers in a puddle.
Over at the treatment area, the colour scheme is soothing and treatment rooms in greys with accents of purple are luxurious. If I could look half as good as the decor I’d be a happy bunny.
My friend emerged from her Caudalie Des Vignes back massage (from £40) suitably impressed. Her therapist had pinpointed the exact place she has tension, without any prompting. I meanwhile was booked for a facial using, again, the spa’s signature Caudalie products, based around the fruits of the vine.
I know that high-tech treatments using electronic devices are very current (no pun intended) but sometimes there’s nothing more wonderful than lying back for an hour having someone apply creams and serums to your face. The D-Vine Facial (from £40) was a dream. A cleanse and facial massage using a combination of Caudalie oil and cleansing milk was followed by a spritz of hydrating water and a fragrant mist. After cleansing, my skin was exfoliated and Caroline, my therapist, applied a hyaluronic masque. I’d been given the option of either a head massage or foot massage so I chose my aching tootsies which I had been squashing into high heels for the greater part of the day. By this time I had gone into a zen-like trance of relaxation. Seriously, I do think easing away tensions can make you look instantly younger.

The results were great. My skin looked so good I didn’t feel any need for my foundation. The texture seemed firmer and the tone was even, plus I felt really relaxed.
We had an overnight stay and indulged in the delights of the restaurant in the evening but if you come for the day the spa can order food for you, from a light menu or you can make it a really indulgent occasion and have afternoon tea. It’s all part of the very excellent service.
