Enjoy a blissful, tranquil spa experience in a castle hotel

As a newcomer to the spa world, I don’t think I could have had a better introduction into this indulgent experience. Tranquility at Peckforton Castle, which opened in July 2010, is a favourite with those visiting the picturesque venue. A stunning location within the woodland of Peckforton Hills, it is an ideal venue for a fairytale wedding – and the spa offers a princess-style pampering to go along with it.

Tranquility is tucked away within the castle walls, a world apart from the busy restaurant. It is a luxurious space, with the exposed brickwork of the walls complimenting the rich mahogany woodwork and royal purple accents. I was taken through to one of two treatment rooms which were adorned with twinkling tea lights, casting a warm glow on the brick. An opaque skylight let a small amount of light into the room, and calming music played softly into the background.

My therapist, (and spa manager) Susie clearly explained the treatments that I would be treated to that afternoon. I was lucky enough to enjoy three treatments, a Swedish Full Body Massage, £70, an Elemis Exotic Moisture Dew facial, £65, and an eyebrow shape, £12.

Susie began with the full body massage, and I gave in to total relaxation as she nourished my skin with an Elemis Exotic Monoi Frangipani Oil. The soothing scent cleansed my mind, and for 55 minutes I felt myself unwind as Susie massaged my muscles, releasing unwanted tension.

With my body feeling supple and detoxed, Susie moved onto the hour-long Elemis Exotic Moisture Dew Facial. Designed to give skin a moisture boost that results in a healthy, dewy look, she started with the anti-oxidant, detoxing Cellular Recovery Skin Bliss Capsules and a specialist facial massage using Gentle Rose Exfoliator, a gel scrub that leaves skin silky-soft and moisturised. The Exotic Cream Moisture Mask followed, and while my skin reaped the benefits of this super-moisture mask, I enjoyed a soothing scalp massage.

Feeling utterly relaxed, the facial finished with Susie using the Rehydrating Ginseng Toner before applying Maximum Moisture Day Cream to seal in moisture to the skin. Susie left the room for a while so I could continue my repose, before returning to carry out my eyebrow shape.

This was a lovely beautifying experience, and over the course of the afternoon I was able to totally relax. I emerged feeing revitalised. Perfection! n
