Tribal footsteps

If you love brightly coloured, bold statement prints, don’t miss the exciting new range of women’s shoes designed by award-winning Norfolk-based musician and charity founder Anna Mudeka.

Her latest venture has seen her turn her attention to fashion with her new label - Mudeka Tribe. The collection of pumps, which have been manufactured by Van Dal of Norwich, use traditional African tribal fabrics, and are cushioned and lined using the best quality leather. They come in eight colours, each named to celebrate the meeting of the two cultures include Venda White, Zambezi Mix, Zulu Black, Sahara Mix, Bantu Blue, Tawina Mix and Chikundi Red. Anna has even paid homage to her adopted city with a Canary Green.

Anna, who moved from Zimbabwe to Norwich in 1994, has forged a successful career as a musician and dancer as well as running a charitable foundation to provide education opportunities for disadvantaged and orphaned children in Zimbabwe.

Anna says she has always loved shoes but found it hard to find comfortable shoes which celebrate her African heritage, so she set about researching and designing her own.

“Living in Norfolk has been like having tolerant and supportive parents while growing up. Whatever I have set out to achieve, the good people of Norfolk have always said ‘Yes, we are right behind you’. They have embraced me as a musician and artist and I am so grateful for that. So far they have been equally enthusiastic about Mudeka Tribe shoes.”

Mudeka Tribe shoes are available from Bond Street Shop, Bond Street, Hingham, NR9 4HA; 01953 851814, and Imelda’s, Guildhall Hill, Norwich, NR2 1JH; 01603 761940; www.mudekatribe.co.uk
