Surrey is renowned for its fantastic range of boutiques and cool fashion websites. Here, we meet a few of the people behind them, to pick up a few insider tips

Mandira Shawls and Scarves, Guildford

Name: Mandira Sarkar Role: Owner Hometown: Guildford Address of shop: Tel: 01483 576574 Opened in: October 2009

Describe your shop: Mandira is an online store selling stunning silk and wool shawls and scarves that are one-off pieces.

Tell us the main labels you stock:  Mandira stocks its own labels, which are made on traditional looms by master craftsmen. All fabric is natural – so pure silk and wool – and every product is unique to you.

What are this season’s key trends?Sheer, shimmering fabrics; classic accessories for sophisticated glamour; unexpected patterns on classic materials; embroidery where you didn’t expect it. In fact, everything that Mandira has stocked!

Which one thing should people buy?I would recommend a classic silk jamavar shawl. Extremely versatile, they can be teamed up with a shirt and jeans, or with an evening dress. They also travel well, so they’re ideal for holidays.

And finally your top tip for visitors? E-mail a picture of the dress or coat that you would like to accessorise, and I will be happy to help. I also offer a private drop-in service by appointment, where customers can pop in on their own, or with a friend, and browse.
