In recent months, team Surrey Life has been busy speaking to our contributors and industry experts from around the county to get a feel for just who makes Surrey tick

Aruna Seth

Surrey’s answer to Jimmy Choo, Aruna Seth, 31, founded her glamorous footwear brand in 2009. Since then, the Purley resident’s show-stopping shoes have become a regular fixture on the red carpet, with celebrity clients including Kate Hudson, Nelly Furtado and Katherine Heigl. What is more, Pippa Middleton wore their Lynn silver sandal on the day of the Royal Wedding with her emerald green Temperley dress. Based out of Hackbridge, their shoes are now stocked in over 50 outlets worldwide, including Harrods, and they were also named Best Newcomer at the Footwear Awards this year.

Kat Vitou

One of the biggest fashion events ever to take place in Surrey, Fashion for Good has raised tens of thousands of pounds for local charities over the last couple of years – and it’s all thanks to founder Kat Vitou, 37. With a background in fashion magazines, Kat, who lives in Cobham, came up with the idea for a major fund-raiser after reading a report by the Community Foundation on hidden poverty in Surrey. The result has been an annual fashion weekender, held most recently at Brooklands Hotel in Weybridge, comprising a catwalk show and a pop-up boutique day that attracts the likes of Louise Redknapp and John Terry. Among the charities to benefit so far are Oasis in Cobham, the Lower Green Community Association in Esher and Your Sanctuary in Woking.

Recently shortlisted in the prestigious Drapers Footwear and Accessories Awards, the boutique was recognised for being “a unique fashion destination for an ever-growing and loyal customer base, who return not just to shop the collections but for the personal service, which includes home delivery, urgent alterations and personal shopping.” In addition, the 55-year-old has also been a driving force behind Esher Fashion Week.
