A young student from Northbrook College Worthing is helping fundraise for local charity the Starr Trust by putting on a Showcase of Talent event this May

20-year old Harleigh Slaughter from Brighton and around 80 of her peers studying Fashion & Textile, Make-up & Hair, will be showcasing their work and creating a new look for their catwalk models in this fabulous fashion competition. The students will go head to head to impress the judges who will include Robin Cousins MBE, Julian Caddy, Director of Brighton Fringe and Hair Designer Simon Webster, with Juice FM’s Guy Lloyd as compère.

Harleigh said: “I wanted to raise money for the Starr Trust, who are all about helping kids achieve their potential. I thought a show like this, giving talented students the platform they need to showcase their skills, would be perfect. It was meant to start quite small with a handful of Northbrook students, but we now have others participating from places like DV8 Sussex and London School of Fashion. It’s been a lot of hard work but a great experience and we’re really grateful to Northbrook and the Hilton Brighton for sponsoring our event.”

With an estimated 200 guests attending as well as industry experts, the Starr Trust is also offering young designers of fashion, jewellery or textiles the chance to showcase their products in return for just 10% of any sales on the day. All monies raised will go towards supporting young people living in the BN postcode area.

As well as the main catwalk event there will be makeup demonstrations and mini-facials and the chance to buy clothes from up and coming young designers. Stalls will be selling jewellery from shops like Stella and Dot, makeup from Boots No7, Clinique and Clarins and bags and accessories from Ollie and Nic. The staff from Northbrook College and DV8 will also be available to chat about the wide range of courses that they run.

Hilton Brighton Metropole | Sunday 22 May from 5pm – 9pm | Tickets: £7 or £15 VIP
