Get fit with Joe
Fitness guru Joe Wicks has officially been adopted as the nation’s PE teacher. His free online fitness classes, PE with Joe, have been enjoyed by millions of kids and their parents too. At 9am it’s not too early, and on Friday if you fancy a workout out in Superman gear, it’s fancy dress. But Joe also has good HIIT workouts for beginners and 10-minute sessions for seniors on his YouTube channel The Body Coach TV.
Louisa Drake Method
Louisa has worked with some of Hollywood’s leading ladies including Gwyneth Paltrow and Victoria Beckham, so you’re in safe hands here. The low impact classes are a fusion of yoga, pilates, barre, cardio, resistance and conditioning. Live online classes include shape changer and sculpt, and there’s also 20 and 30-minute videos offering continual access for 30 days.
This is the Aston Martin of exercise bikes offering an immersive indoor cycling studio at home. For £39 a month you can tune in to a live spin class, or one of the thousands stored that can be filtered by music, instructor and difficulty. The built-in screen tracks vitals and provides motivating visuals. Bikes aren’t cheap at £1,990, but they are silent, so you shouldn’t upset the rest of the house with frantic peddling. Peloton also have a digital app (£12.99 a month) that can be used on other equipment and includes classes in cardio, strength and even chair yoga.

Having had to temporarily close their doors, FLY LDN are bringing their classes to you, streaming classes via Instagram Live. The studio usually offers a range of classes – from sweaty candlelit hip hop yoga to early morning pilates, barre sessions and their signature dynamic flow vinyasa. Sessions last for 45 minutes and are free; they are also posting shorter sessions on YouTube.
More recognised for its fitness clothing and accessories, Gymshark is offering free workouts via its Gymshark conditioning app. There are five, three and one day workout plans, including HIIT and full body sessions, or you can custom your own workout and set the exercises, sets and reps. Equipment is minimal and can be modified to household objects. Movement videos help you get motivated and there’s a progress tracker.
Strutology and danceography
Lead by ‘headmistress’ Zoe McNulty, this sassy fun dance class teaches you to walk tall and feel ‘strutterly fabulous’ regardless of your shape or size. The strutology class is normally run monthly at Pineapple Dance Studios in London, but is now available online - you’ll learn an easy-to-pick-up dance routine and can then strut those moves in the comfort of your home. Current events haven’t seen us exactly jump for joy, but you can bounce for fitness. Get your mini trampoline ready and join an online session of ((bounce)). The classes are suitable for all ages and abilities as there are three levels. It’s particularly good for older people as the exercise is easier on the joints. Once you have finished the kids can bounce off some energy on the trampoline too. It’s £25 for six classes, and trampolines can be purchased from the site.
