Martin Wootton explians how he plans to create Europe's best spa here in Essex

The Studio at Thorpe Hall is a spa with a difference.During the time Martin Wootton spent at Ragdale Hall in Leicestershire, he analysed all aspects of the spa industry and drew up a blue print for the perfect health spa. Working now as managing director of Thorpe Hall, Martin feels sure he has found the perfect fit. His plans for redeveloping the site will see the creation of a fantastic new venue for Essex. Set to open in 2010, thelifehouse will offer visitors the complete spa experience, which Martin believes will soon be known as one of the best spas in Europe.

The StudioLocated just a short drive from Frinton and Walton, Thorpe Hall is nestled in 140 acres of beautiful gardens and grounds. Until 2010, The Studio is offering a luxurious spa experience at Thorpe Hall which includes pampering, beauty and alternative treatments.Whichever therapy you choose, The Studio is the perfect place to unwind and switch off from the outside world. A comprehensive range of the best alternative therapies, health and beauty and holistic treatments are on offer - from the classic Clarins Facial to revitalising HOPI ear candles or blissful hot stone massage. Clients are even invited to build their own ideal day packages, ensuring their experience at The Studio is tailored perfectly to meet their needs.

Beautiful groundsAs well as the serenity of the spa, clients of The Studio are invited to explore the grounds at Thorpe Hall, which itself offers a real tonic for a busy life. The fabulous gardens have recently been restored for the enjoyment of guests who will often take the opportunity before or after a treatment for a stroll around the rose garden or to sit quietly by the lake absorbing the peace and tranquility of the gardens. One of the most recent developments in the grounds has been the regeneration of the bluebell woods. Martin felt the hall needed a suitable environment for clients to walk or jog during their time at the spa and thought the woods would be the perfect place.Occasionally, a heron can be spotted fishing for carp and woodpeckers use the woods to nest. Badgers have returned and there have even been occasional sightings of the very rare dormouse. For a spa client, sitting in the woods late one afternoon watching a barn owl work the edge of the woodland, while the sweet aroma of bluebells fills the air, I can think of very little that would be more relaxing.
