Described as a place where time stands still and relaxation pervades, Alexandra Hurley is full of expectation as she books into The Haven Spa

You could be forgiven for walking straight past The Haven Spa; its discrete front entrance is in stark contrast to its neighbour Primark’s cavernous opening. It would be a big mistake if you did walk straight past, however, because down the carpeted steps lies a hidden oasis of tranquillity only moments away from Exeter’s bustling Guildhall shopping centre. The overall effect of the spa hidden beneath the frantic activity above is incredibly pleasing to the senses, and as soon as you close the door on the city behind you, the stress has already begun to ease.

On entering the reception area, the welcome greeting, melodic soundtrack and cushioned sofas will have you planning your return before you’ve even seen the changing rooms, let alone the newly installed Thermal Suite.

The Haven Spa Exeter is the flagship of The Haven group of spas and salons across Devon and has recently relocated from temporary premises in Southernhay to the newly refurbished location in the Guildhall. Having only opened for business in July, the spa has already received an influx of bookings, and it is easy to see why as it is the only day spa within a 35 mile radius to have all of the facilities that it does. These facilities include the Thermal Suite, Relaxation Room, eight treatment rooms – two of which are double rooms, nail station and an expansive range of Elemis and Spa Find products for purchase.

The new Thermal Suite offers pure bliss in the form of a sauna, aroma room, bucket shower, rain dance shower, foot spas with complimentary salts, a Jacuzzi and heated loungers. Ten minutes before our treatment, my companion and I are directed towards the Relaxation Room from where our beauty therapists will collect us. This softly lit room has us peacefully reclining onto loungers as we await our pampering session. Stress, at this point, has become a completely foreign concept, banished from our bodies by the stimulating yet relaxing experience of the Thermal Suite.

Both my companion and I opted for the Treatment of the Month: The Frangipani Dream, and we were not disappointed. For 50 minutes, Spa Manager Kellie Bradshaw worked her magic exfoliating, softening, hydrating, massaging and cleansing our backs, shoulders, necks, faces and scalp with Luxurious Frangipani Salt Glow and Frangipani Oil. It can only be described as a total dream.

Offering a multitude of varied treatments, The Haven Spa plan to incorporate additional day packages into their range, plus a make-up studio in which to hold workshops and bridal make-up preparation.

Take my advice and book now, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
