MANY women like the idea of tighter, firmer skin on their face, but few like the idea of surgery. The thread lift is an alternative to surgery which is much more efficient than other non invasive treatments on the market. It can be done in less than an hour and, if you really wanted, you can go straight back to work after the treatment, although it is advisable not to talk for a little while and not to exercise for a week.

There is no cutting of skin with the thread lift as it works by inserting special threads into the face which have small cogs on them which are then pulled to lift the face

The effect is more subtle than a face lift and doesn’t last as long, but the procedure can be repeated again when needed.

The threads gradually disintegrate over a period of about 6 to 8 months, but as the cones on the thread anchor themselves into the tissues, they stimulate the body to produce its own collagen.

This action, which continues over time, helps increase the plumpness of saggy areas and restores shapeliness to the face. It can last for up to two years and there is just a small mark left at the exit area of the thread, but this heals very quickly.

The threads are made from materials that have been used for many years in surgery and that are perfectly biocompatible with the body and also biodegradable. The threads can be used all over the face and neck or just on a particular area, for example the jaw or to lift the brows, so the treatment can be suited to your needs.

Dr Jacques Otto, from the Inner Beauty Clinic in Tiptree, is an expert in the treatment. He comments: ‘We have great results from this procedure. People who have started to get drooping around the jaw, brow or neck can now achieve a fresh look without major surgery and going under anaesthetic. The results are immediate and last longer than other non invasive treatments.’

The procedure is more suited to individuals who have some sagging, but is not so suitable for people who have lots of loose skin. Shelley Williams, 55, said of the treatment: ‘There was no pain except for slight discomfort with the initial local anaesthetic injection. I was advised not to open my mouth too wide and eat soft food for a week and not exercise, but I was at work the next day and felt fine, my face has a freshness like I have been on a long holiday.’
