Who doesn’t love a good pamper? Us Essex folk love looking our best, I think it’s in our DNA, and rightly so. Getting ready before a big event is a mammoth task. Beauty regimes are no longer confined to a swish of eyeshadow and a slick of lippie. Oh no, there’s facial peels, waxing, teeth whitening and hair to think about too. But do not fear, we’ve eased the pressure and created our very own West Essex Glam Squad for all your beauty needs. Just call us your beauty godmother. Cinderella, you shall go to the ball!
Dermal fillers and botox
‘Dermal fillers are used as an effective treatment for both facial rejuvenation, and revitalisation in other areas of the body,’ explained Dr Munir Somji, cosmetic doctor and hair transplant surgeon at Dr MediSpa in Loughton. The award-winning clinic provides a menu of treatments and procedures including non-invasive aesthetic procedures to conventional beauty treatments for both men and women. If you’re looking to achieve a more youthful appearance and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, dermal fillers or Botox injections may be for you. ‘Fillers address the natural volume loss that happens when ageing. They can help reduce deep lines and wrinkles, fill hollows and smooth the contours of your face,’ said Dr Munir Somji. ‘However, we have also seen an increase in women getting fillers in their feet to stop pain from high heeled shoes,’ he added.
‘Botox wrinkle reducing injections involve injecting tiny amounts of Botulinum Toxin under the skin which relax or ‘freeze’ certain facial muscles, in order to give a smoother, more youthful appearance. They are extremely safe and reversible,’ Dr Munir Somji explained. Botox also helps to reduce sweating with many opting to have their armpits injected. Botox injections last between three and six months whereas fillers usually last from six months to one year, however in certain cases the results can be seen for up to 18 months. So if you’re looking for a non-surgical solution to ageing skin, visit Dr MediSpa – you won’t be disappointed.
Medical skin peels
Our skin is like a blank canvas. It can be dressed up with a bold lipstick and killer eyeshadow in time for a night out, or enhanced with a rosy blush and defined eyebrows for a casual dinner date. However, having a smooth, well hydrated canvas is the key to makeup success. Luckily, there are many treatments available that can enhance your skins appearance and give you the confidence to go makeup free.

‘Medical skin peels are a method of resurfacing skin. The effect of a peel depends on pre-peel preparation of the skin, the strength of the peel, the volume of the peel used and also the aftercare regimen,’ explained Dr Shereen Rahman, medical director of ESS Clinic in South Woodford.
Medical skin peels offer great results for patients who suffer with fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne scars, rough skin and dull complexions, skin pigmentation problems and poor skin tone. ‘Medium peels improve the tone, texture and clarity of the skin by reducing fine lines and wrinkles,’ explained Dr Shereen. ‘To maintain maximum effect, I would recommend a facial peel every nine to 12 months and would suggest having a peel three weeks before an event to allow plenty of time for healing and a review consultation,’ she said. For more information, book a consultation today.
Hair removal is a treatment that has evolved over recent years. There are a multitude of options available from shaving, to different styles of waxing, threading, electrolysis and laser treatments. ‘Our laser at EOB is the most advanced and state of the art in hair removal technology,’ explained Marina Sanghera, Managing Director at Essence of Beauty, a family run salon in Leyton that has recently celebrated twenty successful years of business. ‘The grade four medical laser is more effective than many other hair removal machines at permanently preventing hair growth. To achieve optimal results, treatments should be received regularly every four weeks for facial hair and every six weeks for other areas of the body,’ Marina explained. Usually the laser takes a minimum of six to nine treatments depending on the hair colour, skin type and area being treated.
For a more temporary fix, Essence of Beauty also offers strip waxing, hot waxing and electrolysis. ‘Hot wax sticks to just the hair and not the skin, unlike strip wax, making it a popular option for sensitive areas,’ Marina said. If you’re not sure what option is best for you call the salon today and one of the friendly therapists will be happy to offer their advice?
The best way to accessorise your outfit is with a dazzling smile and Crofts Dental Practice in Epping is experts in creating the perfect set of pearly whites. Dr Jazz Battu, general and cosmetic dentist at the practice said; ‘Whitening is a very simple and quick method of enhancing the smile. It removes staining that has built up over the years, thereby helping to reverse the signs of ageing. We often combine whitening with cosmetic procedures such as contouring and veneers to achieve the desired look.
‘Our most popular whitening system is Enlighten’s Evolution3 system. It offers exceptional results and is specially formulated to work with reduced sensitivity and leave long lasting results that come with a guarantee,’ Jazz explained. The effectiveness of the treatment is dependant on lifestyle choices, however most patients usually return between one year and 18 months to purchase a top up gel to ensure their smile stays sparkling. All you need is to simply grab your favourite Mac lipstick and away you go!
Having fabulous hair is almost as important as having a showstopping dress for an event. If you’re looking for an on-trend do, head to Tikadi salon in Theydon Bois, Epping. Senior stylist, Hayley Quinlin says: ‘If you’re looking for a popular hairstyle, loose curls and waves are extremely versatile and wearable for all occasions. However, our most popular appointment before an event is our volumizing treatment that helps keep body in your hair all night long. It works like mascara, grabbing every hair and plumping it up.’
Along with styling hair in time for a big event, Tikadi’s team of dedicated stylists are great for creating hair overhauls and the team use their expertise to help you decide on a cut that’s right for your face shape and lifestyle. They also offer a range of home hair care including Morroccan Oil and Schwarzkopf, to help you maintain your style in between visits. Check ‘em out!
‘When it comes to how you feel, hair colour can play a strong role,’ said Mark Mountney, director of Zoology salon and Zoology Colour Lab. ‘A new hair colour can be such a positive change in someone’s life which is one of the reasons why we opened the Zoology Colour Lab. The new salon provides a luxurious space dedicated to colour where clients can really enjoy both the process and results of having their hair coloured,’ he concluded.
The Zoology salons are also great for first-time colourers. After a full consultation, the specialist team will help you decide what option is best for you. ‘When a client is new to colour, we would recommend a more transitioned style that can be developed over time such as highlights or balayage,’ Mark explained. ‘Semi-permanent dyes are also a great way to provide clients with a colour result without long term commitment.’
For a hairstyle that’s very in vogue, why not give your locks a hint of grey. ‘Grey ombre is popping up more frequently and the standard grey hue is developing and becoming infused with lilacs and blues as well as steel greys and silvers for a metallic look,’ Mark said. Looking for a brave new ‘do? Think Kylie Jenner and be bold with a colourful look that is sure to turn heads. And if you want to be ahead of the game, the denim trend is about to sweep the hair world – just remember that you heard it here first.
So there you have it. Multiple beauty bars all offering the very best treatments in the county. From hair removal to teeth whitening, all your beauty needs are covered with the West Essex Glam Squad.
