YOUNG shoppers got creative at an arts workshop to mark the start of London 2012.

A free day-long Olympics arts and crafts session was organised at Crompton Place shopping centre to celebrate the arrival of the Olympic games.

Children visiting the busy shopping centre in the heart of Bolton town centre designed their own sports bags to take home and had their faces painted.

Malcolm Angus, Crompton Place Centre Manager, said: “Many of the families who shop with us will have been watching the fantastic spectacle of the opening ceremony for London 2012 the night before.

“It was lovely to have our own celebration of the games the following day and prolong the fantastic feeling of Olympic spirit which has gripped the nation.

“The arts and crafts were a real hit with the children and gave parents a free way of entertaining their children during the summer holidays.”

Bolton Wanderers mascot, Lofty the Lion, also made a VIP appearance at the event and posed for pictures with his young fans.
