Bath based rural travel company, Foot Trails, is celebrating with a silver award for sustainable tourism after the glittering Tourism Awards ceremony in Torquay.

A Bath based rural travel company is celebrating with a silver award for sustainable tourism at the glittering award ceremony in Torquay on 15th November 2010.

Declan Curry of BBC Breakfast presented Alison & David of Alison Howell’s Foot Trails with the award at the event regarded as the tourism Oscars, attended by 350 of the south west’s leading tourism businesses.

The company who provide walking and countryside holidays in Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and neighbouring Cotswolds beat stiff competition to pick up Silver.

"The company is clearly pushing the boundaries of sustainable tourism" said the Judges.

Foot Trails are the only travel company in the world to specialise solely in walking holidays with English Country Inns. Over 60 measures in support of the environment have been introduced in the last 3 years including printing brochures with waterless printing, developing car-free holidays and encouraging guests to engage with and be inspired by rural issues such as farming and history on their walks.

"We are thrilled to be awarded silver" said managing director Alison Howell. "As a tourism business passionate about rural England we have a great responsibility to act. We are proud to be supporting rural economies and communities through the provision of our holidays".
