Marek Borysiewicz, marketing manager at Belgique talks to WEL about his passion for cakes and coffee, but hopes to find time in the New Year to burn them all off!
Who are you and what do you do?
I am Marek Borysiewicz, a father and husband. However, in my free time I am a marketing manager at several Belgiques, a patisserie cafe and also a photographer and designer at my own company.
Where do you live?
Close enough to Epping Forest that I can enjoy off-road cycling from one Belgique cafe to another, but unfortunately it is still too far away from a sunny beach.
What do you love about your job?
I like the creative element to the job and solving problems. However, I definitely love the great coffee and cakes at the café’s.

What is the best part of your job?
There are many parts, including testing the new seasonal menu, drinking espresso at 5pm and the ‘thank you’ letters from our customers.
What is the worst part of your job?
The sweet and delicious treats that I see each day and having to say ‘no’ to them.
What is the secret of your success?
Never letting people down during your service and always being proud of what you do.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
When I see that my work makes others happy or successful. In my personal life, it is great to see my paintings hosted in a few exhibitions at London galleries.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Close to my lovely wife, for sure. I never plan so far ahead.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
What is ‘spare time’? Sounds like something I have never experienced. But seriously, I would probably close myself in my atelier with white canvas, good music and wine, and stay there as long as possible, until I finish my painting.
What is your greatest fear?
No internet, power and milk for my morning coffee.
Where do you go for a guy’s night out?
Close enough to find the way back home.
What is your drink of choice?
Prosecco if I am in Southern Europe, red wine with a dinner or local lager from Hackney.
What is top on your bucket list?
It has to be driving a Supercar designed by Pininfarina and also building my own unique house.
Can you share any of your New Years resolutions?
I don’t think this will fit in one page.
I want to make sure that the Italiano sandwich stays on next the Belgique’s menu, and also that I have enough time for exercise so that I can burn extra calories from my favourite sandwich.
