Brittany Feeney from Little Sutton is basking in the spotlight after winning the coveted Miss Cheshire title.

The 19-year-old beat off 14 other contestants at Forest Hills Country Club, Frodsham, to be crowned the new queen of the county and says it’s all because of mum Julieann Harland.

‘I was actually inspired by her to enter the competition,’ says the former pupil of the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

‘I really want to follow in my mum’s footsteps as she was a finalist for Miss Great Britain and won previous competitions as well, when she was Julieann Gerard.’

To win her title Brittany was quizzed by the judges and took part in a swimsuit and evening gown round.

‘We ran out of time so there was only one question for each contestant. However it is based around being who you are which was rather nice as it put you at your ease,’ she says.

‘For the evening gown round I did have a dress that I had bought quite a while ago from America and I’d never worn, so this was a wonderful opportunity to wear it, which is great because it was gorgeous.’

It’s proving an amazing year for Brittany, who after leaving LIPA with a diploma in performing arts with a maths distinction starts a performing arts course in Liverpool in September.

‘I’ll be studying dance,’ reveals the former Bellerive FCJ Catholic College, student.

‘This will involve more physical challenges as I’ll have to learn how to sing and act. I’ve always loved dancing and performing. I’d like a career either on Broadway or the West End and I feel I am lucky to have such a passion for something.’

Of course, there are those who feel beauty competitions are a little old hat, but Brittany believes Miss Cheshire is not based soley on outward beauty. It focuses on personality, passions, career and life goals.

‘I’d say it is more about the whole person than the way they look. It’s more about having a kind heart and not based on looks and what you’re wearing,’ she says. ‘There were a lot of lovely girls there so I am honoured to be crowned with the title and happy with the result. I do look forward to seeing what it brings in the future.’

She hopes her schedule as Miss Cheshire will open up opportunities for appearances in support of charities and good causes and her phone is now hot with people wanting to sponsor her for the Miss Great Britain pageant in September.

‘ I have always wanted to be a role model,’ she reveals.

‘If you believe in something, want something and work hard for it, then anything is possible if you put your mind to it, so I’d love to pass that message on to others.’
