Did you know Stockport has a connection to a host of celebrities on the small screen? Here are our favorite five Stopfordians
Salford born and bred, Jason Manford loves Stockport so much so that he moved his parents from Whalley Range to be closer to him.
‘What I like about Stockport is that it’s got everything you need - the town centre with all the shops, a theatre, a cinema and a swimming pool, but I’m only five minutes from countryside. I really like that.’
Michelle was born on June 3 1987 in Woodley, was working on a beauty counter at Selfridges in the Trafford Centre when she got her part in Coronation Street in January 2008.
She left her role as the popular Tin McIntyre in an explosive storyline in 2014 and although she now lives in Essex with TOWIE star Mark Wright, she’ll always be a northern girl at heart.
The co-host of Strictly Come Dancing was born into a family of Stopfordians that goes back several generations, and was brought up in Birch Vale, a village near New Mills whose only claim to fame down the centuries has been...you guessed it...Tess herself.
Tess went to Hayfield Primary School and New Mills Secondary School, but went on to travel the world as a model shortly after turning 18, she married fellow northerner and TV presenter Vernon Kay in 2003 and they have two daughters.

‘I’m a proud Stockport guy. I have no shame in saying where I’m from,’ says Luis. ‘I did The Cage mainly because it’s my wife’s favourite place to visit. I never expected that cake to get the response it did. When it aired, it went crazy with people going “Where is this and what is it he’s done?”’
