Ooh, it's a long way!
Two teenage boys from Cirencester, Harry Homan-Green and Josh Potts (both 19), have set themselves the challenge of a 2,000+ mile PINK cycle marathon in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer during October, which is national Breast Cancer Awareness month. The pair are determined to fulfil this major feat from John O’Groats to the most southerly point of Europe, Tarifa Point in Spain, dressed in just bright pink morphsuits!
“We wanted to do something fun and challenging during our gap year and raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer at the same time” says Harry. “My Mum started the Cotswold Breakthrough Breast Cancer group five years ago with her best friend Eira Hooper who was diagnosed with the disease. They dedicated all their spare time organising different fundraising events locally for Breakthrough which is the UKs leading charity committed to fighting breast cancer. Sadly Eira lost her fight in July 2008 but Mum and her friends carry on in her memory to help create a future free from the fear of breast cancer.”
The Crown Inn at Cerney Wick (www.thecrowncerneywick.co.uk) has already pledged their support and are funding boys by generously sponsoring 2 hybrid bikes which will be auctioned off for the charity after the venture. The boys are seeking further sponsors and have set up a dedicated website with a blog www.itsalongway.co.uk, where people can follow their efforts and pledge support. They intend to start their journey on 2nd October 2010 and anticipate taking 27 days to complete it, cycling between 35 to 110 miles a day, depending on the terrain.
