Letter from the Editor Kent Life Editor Sarah Sturt shares some good news and looks ahead to a great new year
They say that good things come to those who wait and as I enter my seventh year as Editor of Kent Life, a role I have always been so proud to hold, I was thrilled to be awarded the Archant Life Editorial Person of the Year Award as 2011 drew to a close. After checking with my managing editor that she’d got the right Sarah, when she phoned to tell me the news, I did finally manage an astonished ‘thank you.’
Now I’m not going to go all Oscar speech-with-tears on you, but as always with awards no man (or woman) stands alone. Not only could I not do my job without the help of my wonderful designer and chief photographer and my loyal team of freelance contributors – but it would all be for nothing if Kent wasn’t such a truly great county with so many extraordinary people doing simply extraordinary things.
This first edition of 2012 is a classic – from our trio of Kent Olympian and Paralympian hopefuls to the two new Young Chefs of the Year putting us grown-ups to shame in the kitchen, from the people of Elham who also won an award – the prestigious Village of the Year – to the enterprising lot up and down the county who are busily rescuing, recycling and restoring the stuff that many of us have simply discarded as no longer wanted or fit for purpose.
I sense none of us will be throwing much away in these challenging economic times, but if you want cheering up every month and reminder of how lucky we all are to live in Kent, why not take advantage of our excellent subscription offers, save a bit of money and guarantee you’ll get a copy of Kent Life delivered to your door every month?
