Young people across the South West are being offered the chance to embark on a career in the security industry with a brand new apprenticeship scheme at Gloucestershire College.

APPRENTICES SECURE FUTURES WITH GLOUCESTERSHIRE COLLEGE AND ALLCOOPERYoung people across the South West are being offered the chance to embark on a career in the security industry with a brand new apprenticeship scheme at Gloucestershire College.The Security Systems apprenticeship was introduced in February 2013 in response to employer demand and is giving budding engineers the opportunity to become qualified in the installation and maintenance of security systems.Gloucester based security firm, Allcooper have helped pioneer the apprenticeship, with Chief Executive Roman Cooper working closely with the College to secure the funding and resources needed to introduce the new apprenticeship framework. Apprentices have been gaining experience working four days a week at the local security company, learning the practical skills needed to install and service a range of security products including intruder alarms, CCTV, fire alarms and entry systems. This, coupled with one day per week studying at Gloucestershire College with Lecturer and security systems expert Chris Burt, will see the students working towards intermediate and advanced level apprenticeship qualifications.Seven of Allcooper’s thirty installations and service engineers are apprentices and Sylvia Bullock, Executive Director for Business Development at Gloucestershire College is urging more companies to get involved. Sylvia said; “This is a fantastic opportunity for local security companies to get involved with apprenticeships and benefit from the enthusiasm and potential of talented young people in the county. Allcooper are a great example of how both the employer and the students can benefit from an apprenticeship scheme and we would love to hear from other employers interested in joining forces.”Roman Cooper, who himself began a career with the family business as an apprentice, explained; “Apprenticeships offer something very unique for businesses like ourselves. They are an opportunity for us to give young, enthusiastic people a chance to build a career within our industry and at the same time, help them to develop their skills within a fast paced and practical environment. The Security Systems apprenticeship at Gloucestershire College has started brilliantly and now we want to see it grow. We’ve invested in apprentices for many years and will continue to do so into the future.”Allcooper is a leading, independent company specialising in fire safety and security. Founded in 1987, it now boasts a client base of over 5,000 across the UK and into Europe. The 80-strong team at Allcooper deliver bespoke solutions to private clients and businesses, through the installation, monitoring and maintenance of a range of products.
