According to a new report by Tourism South East, tourism in Guildford helped to bring over 200 million into the town's economy last year.

The independent report, commissioned by Guildford Borough Council, reveals that 296,000 visitors made an overnight stay in Guildford in 2011, with up to 30 per cent of visitors being from overseas.

“The strong results come as no surprise as we have a vibrant group of attractions and accommodation providers who regularly meet to share initiatives and work together to promote Guildford,” says Diana Roberts, tourism marketing and development manager at Guildford Tourist Information Centre.

“Moving the Tourist Information Centre to the High Street has also had a big impact, both in cost savings and increased footfall – over 70% more customers than the previous year!”

As well as highlighting Guildford’s strong performance, the report also reveals that the South East has retained its position as the second largest regional economy in England for domestic and overseas tourism.
