A Tewkesbury-based engineering company is taking off thanks to a £3.5m machining facility making landing gear components for Airbus aircraft

Precision grinding firm Bowmill Group has installed a new Chiron machining centre at its Tewkesbury plant, which means it can supply critical landing gear components to Safran Landing Systems for the Airbus A320/A321.

Supplied by the Engineering Technology Group (ETG), the package comes with matriculation technology courtesy of Wotton-under-Edge-based Renishaw.

The firm also has a base in Poole, in Dorset. Nick Epps, Managing Director, billed the Tewkesbury plant as a “resounding success”.

“More than £2.5m has been spent with ETG on supplying a range of Quaser, Nakamura and Chiron technology and this has not only given us significant additional capacity for existing and future work, but also allowed us to meet the aerospace sector’s exceptional demand for quality, delivery, support and commercial objectives.”

Seventeen new jobs have been created at the Ashchurch factory, which has significant capacity for expansion.
