The six-year-old golf pro rom Old Romney who has already played in San Diego this summer

Tell us a bit about you

My full name is Arthur Leonard David Saunders and I was six on 13 June. I live in Old Romney, on the Romney Marsh, and go to school at Brookland Primary School, where I am in Year One. My favourite subject at school is maths

My mum’s name is Di and my dad’s name is Kevin. I have two sisters, an older sister called Daisy and a twin sister called Georgi.

We don’t have any pets anymore, but we used to have a British bulldog called Coco.

Tell us about your golf

I started going up the driving range with my dad when I was just three and I got my first set of clubs a few months later. I quite liked golf, but enjoyed having fun with dad more.

The following summer, when I was four, I joined Littlestone Golf Club with my dad, as they had a good junior set up and other kids I could play with.

Charlie Wilson and Dan Gilbert (who are the two pros at LGC) coach me. I normally have one or two lessons a week, plus one or two junior group lessons a week, depending on the time of year and how busy mum and dad are.

Have you had any wins yet?

At the end of last summer I won the Littlestone Golf Club junior order of merit and I was the youngest there, beating all the older children.

This year I have, so far, played in five junior tour events around the country, where I have finished third, second and first 3 times.

During this process I also qualified for this summer’s IMG Academy Junior World Championship in San Diego, after finishing second in the Boys 6 and Under division of the British Junior Golf Tour at Redbourn Golf Club in March.

Attending the IMG Championships costs a lot of money, so Littlestone members and friends held a golf day in order to raise funds for the trip. Any money left over will go into a bursary pot for other juniors at Littlestone.

I now love golf more than my dad does and I would love to play golf for a career when I am old enough.

What is your ambition?

My current ambition is to get my handicap lower than my dad’s.

What does dad thinkKevin says: “The fact that Littlestone welcomes juniors meant I could take Arthur with me when I went for lessons and it was evident from very early on that Arthur loved the game, so we signed him up with Charlie and he has never looked back.

He wakes me up at 6am every Sunday so we don’t miss a moment to play golf or be at the club. He knows every distance from every tee box at the Championship Links course at Littlestone. He even has a life-size cut-out of French professional, Victor Dubuisson, in his bedroom! We have tried to introduce other sports but he won’t have it. He eats and sleeps golf.

If you ask Arthur what his favourite TV programme is he answers without hesitation “Golf!” If you ask him his favourite subject at school, it’s “Arithmetic” and if you ask him why, he will tell you proudly that it’s so he can enter his own Stableford scores, which incidentally, he can.

At World Book Day, Arthur was asked to dress as a character from his favourite book so he donned his golf gear and went to school as Rory McIlroy.”

any other interests?

I like Transformers, making paper aeroplanes and macaroni cheese and dippy (ketchup). going for bike rides and playing football in the garden.

But not as much as I like playing golf. w
