The boutique owner from Tunbridge Wells on jumpsuits, heels and Christmas sparkle
Tell us a bit about you
My name is Sophie Brown and I co-own Bod & Ted, an independent womenswear boutique on Tunbridge Wells High Street. I do all the buying for the store, as well as running its website and social media.
I studied History and Music at university and have always loved clothes and their place in history and society, so after graduating it seemed a natural step to go into the fashion business.
I am a keen snowboarder and take every opportunity I can to travel. I love photography and use these skills on a day-to-day basis maintaining the Bod & Ted website. I recently got married and we have a little border terrier called Scruff who sometimes stars in my twitter feeds.
Looking ahead, I would like to design an own-brand Bod & Ted capsule collection.
What are you wearing?
Although I do have lots of colour in my wardrobe, I am always drawn to black. There is something so simple and chic about it. I’m wearing a black jumpsuit by French brand American Vintage, one of my absolute favourites. Jumpsuits are a little bit of a departure from the norm for me, but I love how they’re an alternative to a skinny jean or dress for the party season.
This one is great because it has definition at the waist and is loose-fitting on the leg, to create a nice silhouette and stop it from feeling too dressy. My shoes are from Bourne London – even though they have a 5in heel they’re amazingly comfortable.
The cardigan is from another French brand Marie & Sixtine, the waterfall cut is really flattering and who doesn’t love a bit of sparkle at Christmas?
Where do you live?
After living in Brighton for eight years I’ve moved back to Tunbridge Wells, where I grew up. I come from a close-knit family who, after going their own separate ways, now all live back here, so it felt natural.
I love living in Kent with its beautiful countryside and parks, perfect as the owner of a dog who needs a lot of walks!
When we have friends to visit I’m proud to show them around the town and they are amazed by the individuality of the High Street and the Pantiles and the plethora of restaurants and bars.
Where do you like to shop?
My favourite place is Tunbridge Wells High Street and of course Bod & Ted. I always tend to gravitate towards pieces that are a little bit different, which is why I love shopping at independent boutiques.
I also love interior design, so browsing the homeware shops of The Pantiles and Chapel Place is a great pleasure too. n
