Nominations are being sought for amazing women in the North West and North Wales who inspire us with their courage, dedication or business flair.
Founder and organiser Jacqueline Hughes-Lundy, from Hale, said: ‘Cheshire Life and Lancashire Life readers have supported the Inspiring Women Awards for over 10 years with nominations and by attending the lunch and in 2012 we hope that this will continue.’
Winners from the 2011 awards, presented by John Ameachi OBE, represented the diversity of achievement from women across the region. Kids Allowed owner, Salford based Jenni Johnson, the Business Award winner, sponsored by Deloitte, brought her 13-year-old daughter with her to show her what women from any background can achieve. It was a sentiment echoed by Creative and Media winner, Sita Williams, a drama producer with award winning RSJ Films.
Sita told the audience that being a woman in the media business is not a problem, what is a problem, is the perception that you can’t have a career and a family. Sita is an example that says you can.
For her work with the Chinese and ethnic minority community, Dr Sylvia Sham from Macclesfield received the Community Award, sponsored by Manchester Metropolitan University and 28-year-old Preston-based Claire Fryer was recognised as the Social Entrepreneur Award winner with her company, Mosaic.
The biggest cheer at last year’s lunch was reserved for the Inspiring Young Award winners: Shaniece, Cat and Steff from the Us Unlimited project in Flint. Receiving their award from sponsor Carole Nash, these young women embodied the spirit of the awards with their honesty and dedication to opening a homeless centre for young people in Flint.
