Potters, the oldest family-owned holiday resort in the UK, is getting ready to celebrate its 100-year anniversary in 2020 and is asking for help from past guests and local residents

Potters, the oldest family-owned holiday resort in the UK, is getting ready to celebrate its 100-year anniversary in 2020 and is asking for help from past guests and local residents.

As part of its celebrations, the Hopton-on-Sea resort would like to talk to people who stayed or worked at the resort in the early years, between the 1920s and 1960s. It would also like to hear from people with any historical information or photos of the resort and people who just want to share fond memories from over the years.

This is to support a special 'history' room, which is due to open at the end of the year, which will contain an original full size timber hut, kitted out with beds and furniture as it would have been in 1920 when it first opened.

Potters Resort was opened by Herbert Potter after he won a cheque for £500 - around £22,000 today - in a newspaper competition in July 19, 1913.

Potters Resort is currently working on other plans to mark its centenary year with guests and is aiming to raise £100,000 through the Potters Friends Foundation to support causes and projects in its local community.

Potters Resort is owned by the Potter family and currently under the helm of managing director John Potter, who says: "I am incredibly proud that Potters Resort is reaching its 100th year and while Potters has modernised and expanded throughout the years, the friendly spirit that it was built on is still very much part of our secret to continued success today.

"We'd love to hear from anyone who has stories and memories about Potters Resort, whether they came to stay with us, worked here or lived nearby to see how it has been transformed over the years."

Anyone who can help with the history appeal can email 100Years@pottersholidays.com or write to 100 Years Appeal, Potters Resort, Coast Road, Hopton-on-Sea, Norfolk, NR31 9BX.
