Anyone who thinks the days of our country shows are numbered should have been at Garstang for one of the stand-out rural events of the year.

Despite gloomy weather forecasts, it lived up to its reputation as one of the north’s top one day shows. ‘It was excellent,’ said show secretary Sue White. ‘It went very well indeed and we were relieved that the weather forecasters were wrong – it turned out to be a super day.’

This was the 197th show, which regularly attracts up to 15,000 people to see every aspect of rural life including classes for horses, cattle, sheep, local food, horticulture and crafts.

‘There is still great interest in these shows and, at Garstang, we have remained traditional by staying close to our country roots,’ added Sue.

‘Local people enjoy it and those who live in towns and cities love seeing all the good things that go on in the countryside.’
