Mr Harold Pursey, a war veteran, sadly passed away last Tuesday 24th August at Burnham Lodge Nursing Home with his loyal companion by his side Bobby. Mr. Pursey became a local celebrity a year ago when he refused to move to Residential care without Bob, his beloved black labrador.

Judith Alder, his Social Worker, had to work hard at the time to find a Care Home that would accept him and his dog. Eventually Frith House obliged and the pair remained there until May of this year when Mr. Pursey’s health deteriorated and a decision was made by Judith and Carol Mutlow, District Nurse Assessor that Nursing Home Care was now required.

That’s where the nightmare began - finding a Residential Home was difficult, but finding a Nursing Home seemed a daunting, if not impossible, task. A potential parting from Bobby would be heartbreaking for Mr Pursey. The challenge commenced and Burnham Lodge saved the day. So successful was this move, as Residents and Staff alike adored Bob and the fact that he had settled in so well, that the Matron, Soriaya Mandigal, after lots of discussions and negotiations agreed to give Mr. Pursey and Bob a home for life!

When this suggestion was put to Mr. Pursey he was overwhelmed and cried with relief, knowing that his beloved dog would have no further traumas in being re-homed after his death. A formal contract was then drawn up to safeguard and ensure Bob’s permanent home.

To this end Judith, Soriaya and all the staff put their heads together and came up with ‘The Bobby Appeal.’ As any dog owner is aware veterinary fees can prove extremely expensive and it was their desire to provide a fund for Bob to cover future veterinary costs and any other future eventualities. On the demise of Bobby any residue funds will be forwarded to the RSPCA; Mr. Pursey’s favourite charity.

SPONSORED WING WALK

Judith and Soriaya have agreed to take on the unusual and daring challenge of a Wing Walk at the end of next month to raise funds to secure Bob’s future welfare. Please, please sponsor them!!
