The Lord-Lieutenant of Kent celebrates the Queen’s birthday

The Lord-Lieutenant of Kent has called on local communities to celebrate the Queen’s official 90th birthday in June with street parties and village events. A 400-strong congregation at the 12th annual Civic Service, held this year in All Saints Church, Maidstone, heard Viscount De L’Isle, Her Majesty’s representative in the county, pay tribute to Her Majesty’s great service to nation and Commonwealth. He hoped communities would “come together,” especially on Sunday 12 June, and thanked everyone present for “doing Kent proud.” He expressed gratitude to The Allan Willett Foundation, established by Viscount De L’Isle’s late predecessor and about to be wound up, for supporting the service every year. Kent Community Foundation is to take over from 14 March 2017, when it will be held in Canterbury Cathedral.
