Architecture throughout the ages in this bustling and diverse Yorkshire city.
Even though Bradford is home to the National Science and Media Museum, it isn’t the first place that springs to mind when thinking of places in Yorkshire that photgraphers should go to.
However, the city has a wealth of fine architecture from throughout the ages and a number of beautiful green spaces right on its doorstep.
The wide open spaces of Bradford City Park which includes Centenary Square with the silhouette of the Grade I listed, 19th century City Hall is one of the most popular places to capture in the city.
Other buildings such as the grand Edwardian Cartwright Hall in Lister Park and the exotic Alhambra Theatre with its large domed turret and Corinthian columns is one of the most loved buildings in Yorkshire, in addition to these landmarks, the glass fronted National Science and Media Museum that was built in the 1980s has added to the rich tapestry of architecture in this diverse city.
The 249 foot high chimney at Lister’s Mill can be seen from across the city and dominates the skyline, the mill was built by industrialist Samuel Cunliffe Lister, who also donated Lister Park to the city of Bradford in the 19th century. The park has a lake and water gardens and in the Spring, is the location of a spectacular display of crocuses.
Further afield, the villages of Saltaire and Haworth are both locations with huge historical importance, the latter a designated UNESCO World Heritage SIte and the former attracts thousands of visitors every year for its links to the Bronter family.
