The local coastline plays an important part in the history of Glasson.
In the 1780’s the Glasson Dock opened access to Lancaster for large vessels, in the 1820’s when a branch of the Lancaster Canal arrived in Glasson, the further network grew even further.
Like all small ports, Glasson went through a long, gradual period of decline. But there is still plenty of life at the docks and in this fascinating part of North Lancashire.
Glasson is still a popular destination for leisure boating by way of Glasson Basin Marina and there are number of walks that the day-tripper can take in the immediate vicinity, down the coast to Cockersands Abbey or inland to Galgate.
