One of Cheshire’s most iconic buildings is captured on camera

That foremost expert on the buildings of England, Nikolaus Pevsner, was a little rude about the wonky lines of Little Moreton Hall.

He acknowledged it as ‘the most popular of all English black-and-white houses’ but added that ‘as it comes into sight - happily reeling, disorderly, but no offence meant - it seems at first unbelievable, and then a huge joke.’

The top-heavy appearance of the hall and its lack of straight lines does induce a smile, the National Trust’s own guide book describing the 16th century manor house as ‘lifted from a fairy story’.

Fans of the hall may like to know that there will be even more of it to see in 2018, as parts previously off-limits, including the living quarters of staff in the 20th century, will be open from June.

We would love to see your photos of Little Moreton Hall, upload them to the Cheshire Life reader photo gallery.
