Our readers share their photos from the newest addition the Lake District National Park
The 1st of August marks a special day for Sizergh Castle, as it will officially become part of the wonderful Lake District. The stunning castle and grounds are owned by the National Trust and have been lived in by the Strickland family for over 750 years, and still remains their home today. A visit to the historical Sizergh Castle makes for a perfect day out as it is full of spectacular views and plenty of activities for all of the family to enjoy.
The rich gardens are a particular highlight during summer as they are in full bloom, with stunning displays of enchanting wildflower, The National Trust’ largest limestone rock garden and even the chance to play croquet on the lawn. There is also a wildlife walk around Sizergh grounds where you can take in the stunning countryside views, the coast at Morecambe Bay, the Lakeland Fells and the Pennines, as well as spotting some of the countryside’s best wildlife.
You can relax in the castles contemporary café by grabbing a light lunch or tuck into some delicious cakes and scones, ending the day by treating yourself to a souvenir of Sizergh from their very own gift shop. The nearby Strickland Arms is well worth a visit, as is the Low Sizergh Barn Farm on the other side of the A591.
