There was another big entry for our Lancashire Life Landscape Artist of the Year contest. Here are the shortlisted artists.
THREE highly talented north west artists have won their way through to the final of the Lancashire Life Landscape Artist of the Year competition, held in association with Hepplestone Fine Art.
Our annual competition has once again attracted more than 50 entries from Lancashire and the Lakes, demonstrating the growing popularity of painting as a hobby and, for a dedicated few, a way to earn a living.
While most of the entries once again produced a majority of traditional country scenes, more artists are now trying their hand at some edgier, urban views. Sponsors Hepplestone Fine Art are based in a picturesque location at Heskin Hall farmers’ market near Chorley.
Giles Hepplestone, co-founder of the award-winning family business, has been a long-term supporter of northern artists. ‘It’s great to be able to showcase artists who might otherwise have a high profile for their work. ‘It was refreshing to see so many entrants and, while we have seen one or two familiar names, many are new to us. It’s also been good to see such a variety of styles and a cross-section of subjects. I was pleased to see some contemporary urban landscapes included.’
Lancashire Life editor Roger Borrell added: ‘When we launched this competition in 2016 we had no idea it would be so popular. It demonstrates the talent we have in the region and, thanks to some of the television competitions, painting seems more popular than ever.’
The awards ceremony will be held at Hepplestone Fine Art shortly and the winner and runners-up will be featured in a future issue of Lancashire Life.
AMANDA WATSON
Amanda was born in Yorkshire but has a thorough knowledge of the Lake District and now resides in Kendal. She is a contemporary artist with a passion for rural landscape and the sea. She attended Leeds College of Art, before completing my BA (Hons) Fine Art in Painting from the University of Leeds.
She first moved to Windermere in 2003 before settling in Kendal.
CHRIS RIGBY
Chris draws inspiration from his travels throughout the British Isles and he work on a range of themes, mainly wild and urban landscapes and the human figure.
His urban themes started with a series of backs of terraces while he was in Lancaster after returning from living in Cornwall. The human figure featured most predominantly in an exhibition at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal.
TREVOR LINGARD
Trevor was born Accringtonand now lives in the picturesque Ribble Valley. He is a self taught professional artist and his work shows the skill from decades of practice and a fundamental understanding of the properties of the paint and the surfaces he uses.
He is inspired by the works of Edward Seago, Sir William Russel Flint, and renowned artists Trevor Chamberlain and John Yardley.
