Glynn Ward, whose photographs regularly appear in Lancashire Life, has rekindled his love affair with painting.

When Glynn Ward moved from his white rose roots to Lancashire, little did he expect that this would prove to be the catalyst for rekindling his life-long love of painting. Already a renowned photographer who had travelled the world, Glynn is a regular contributor to Lancashire Life working on many of the magazine's features and social page coverage.

Now Glynn, 67, skilfully combines his work as a photographer capturing many significant moments in the lives of Lancashire people and places, with creating incredible images on canvas. A former fine art and photography student from Sheffield Art College, Glynn eschewed a job in the pit or the local steel works to carve out a career first as a graphic artist then later as a photographer.

Technological advances meant a successful career in graphic art stalled and Glynn found himself turning more and more to his camera to fulfil his creative passion.

Used to working to deadlines, and with an eye for framing a great picture, Glynn's role as a photographer took him all over the world with commissions as diverse as travel and fashion.

'The move to Lancashire was a turning point,' says Glynn. 'I never thought Lancashire would become my home and capture my heart the way it has. Being out in Lancashire often as a photographer covering a story, I have captured all sorts of images. I had always done the odd commission painting for someone but being out around the county and seeing such interesting places and meeting amazing people has inspired me to turn to painting more and more.'

Glynn Ward is not an artist who sticks to one style or subject matter. He will often paint a series of pictures on a topic he has found interesting studying it closely to get the detail and movement in his paintings.

'I like to paint big - small pictures don't really cut it for me. We are running out of room on the walls.'

Colour plays a huge part in Glynn's life and work and his "signature" dress code is often described as colourful. Seascapes, landscapes, still life, portraiture, the range of Glynn's work is vast. Following a serious illness some years ago, Glynn admits he now has a very different attitude to life and the interesting people he meets, many of whom now inspire his art work.
