Audible is an audio book subscription service that has opened up a large number of their catalogue for free while children are off school.
The current lockdown means that those that live far from the countryside will be denied experiencing the countryside for the time being.
However, you should never underestimate the power of a child’s imagination. When these classic books were originally written, they transported children to another world of much loved characters and natural beauty. Even though the format has changed, we’re sure they will do the same for this generation of children.

Winnie-the-Pooh: A.A. Milne’s Pooh Classics
Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Rabbit, Tigger, Owl, Eeyore, Kanga and Roo, we all have a character that we can relate to the most.
The stories centre around the community and goings-on around Hundred Acre Wood which is based on Five Hundred Acre Wood in Ashdown Forest in East Sussex.

Timeless Tales of Beatrix Potter: Peter Rabbit and Friends
The Peter Rabbit and Friends stories are not just loved by the British. For a period of time, these books were the reading material of choice for young children around the world that were learning English; Japan in particular.
Beatrix Potter spent most of her latter years in the Lake District and left the majority of her extensive estate to the National Trust when she died.

The Wind in the Willows
The riverside antics of Mole, Ratty, Mr Badger and Mr Toad are one of the nation’s most loved countryside tales.
Author Kenneth Grahame spent much of his life in and around the Thames Valley and it is clear to see that the area provided the inspiration and setting for the book.

Black Beauty
Black Beauty tells the sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking story of a working horse, was written near Norfolk by Great Yarmouth born Anna Sewell.
It was also the inspiration for the TV series The Adventures of Black Beauty that was broadcast in the early 1970s.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
This fanastical tale of a young girl who begins an adventure by following a white rabbit down a hole is an enduring classic full of madcap characters and quirky plot points. It has been immortalised by Hollywood over the years in the form of a Disney cartoon and a Johnny Depp film, and the star quality continues here with the narration by Scarlett Johansson.
Lewis Carroll lived in the quaint Cheshire village of Daresbury for the first eleven years of his life and you can still find the inspiration for the Cheshire Cat and other notable landmarks in Cheshire today.
