Cheshire Girls Championship - Hat-trick for Bel
PRESTBURY Golf Club’s England junior star Bel Wardle claimed a hat trick of consecutive Cheshire County Girls Championships at sun-drenched Royal Liverpool GC.
The scratch handicap 16-year-old posted a best gross of 80 to beat home player Emily McBurney by a shot to become possibly the first-ever player to win the trophy for three years in a row.
It was a treat for the girls to play such a famous course in ideal conditions and although they found it a tough test it provided them with a great experience.

Fiver Club leave a legacy at Astbury
THE Fiver Club at Astbury Golf Club are a group of friends who run their own sweep during each mens’ competition.
They decided that rather than wait for the grim reaper to strike before leaving something to the club they would donate a seat whilst they were still here to enjoy it.
And the result is now on the 16th tee to enjoy looking down the fairway and consider the next shot which could be a hook on to the railway line, a slice into the copse beyond the 15th green or even a shot down the middle.
James is a convincing winner on home turf
THE horrendous summer weather struck again to take out a big chunk of the Cheshire Strokeplay Championships at a magnificent and pristine Prestbury course.
It was decided, due to the poor weather forecast, to let the top 58 players from the original entry of 130 to play an extra round to decide the championship and it proved to a wise decision as more heavy showers again hit Prestbury on the final day.
But they did not unduly disturb James Newton as he posted a second round of 69 for a winning score of 136 to finish three shots clear of Matt Murray (Lymm) who had a best-of-the-day 68 to win the Israel Sidebottom Trophy as the championship runner-up.
As well as the Championship Trophy James also won the TPD Taylor Trophy as the leading Colt and helped his Prestbury team to win the team trophy and they will go on to represent Cheshire in the national finals later in the season.
