Croydon stone carver Simon Keeley

Recently selected as a featured artist on popular TV series Kirstie's Homemade Home, Croydon stone carver Simon Keeley is no stranger to the limelight.

Some of his work can be seen at Westminster Abbey, he’s a regular participant of Surrey Artists Open Studios in June and he’s also a teacher.

“Kirstie Allsopp was lovely to be with during the filming,” says Simon, 48. “Her programme has been highly important to remind the public about crafts they can pursue to enhance our homes and gardens.”

Presently carving a one metre-high statue of St Peter, which is set to be completed in the spring and placed in a niche at a Suffolk church that has been empty since the reign of Henry VIII, Simon says his work is predominantly classically styled.

“My proudest achievement so far is the massive design I did for a Harley Street clinic in 2009,” he adds. “Carved out of Portland limestone, it’s called Healing Plants, and to see it on the building is fantastic!”

This year, Simon can be seen exhibiting and demonstrating at The Listed Property Show at Olympia in February and at Blenheim Palace’s A Taste of Summer in May. He will also be appearing again at Surrey Artists Open Studios, at his summer studio in Windlesham.
