It's August, it's Bournemouth, so it's showtime - and there are some great productions and performances you just won't want to miss...

Bournemouth welcomes a host of magnificent shows from shows like the Dirty Dancing tribute show, which continues at the Landmarc (tel: 01202 589868) in Exeter Road, to Disney's Beauty and the Beast at the Pavillion Theatre. This show has been nominated for nine Tony Awards including the accolade of best Musical. It is coming to Bournemouth from 14th to 18th August and prices start around £12, so not beastly at all! (Tel: 01202 456400). Not all shows will be hanging around, though. For one night only, on 4th August we're being visited by Todd Miller and the Joe Loss Orchestra and Singing Stars, brought to us by Brian Earwicker. Le Grand Cirque is also coming to Bournemouth from a sold-out tour of the USA. It is an electrifying production that features world-class artistes from all over the globe. The show stays at the BIC until 2nd September. (Tel: 01202 456400). Hopefully the weather will improve, so for those of you who want to smell the sea air whilst enriching your minds, there's plenty on offer. Meyrick Park will be alive with music this month with everything from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra on 3rd August to the 1812 Classical Extravaganza, again presented by the BSO on 4th August (tel: 01202 451865). And if that still doesn't take your fancy, every Friday until 27th August, there are fireworks down at the Pier Approach . Head out to sea in a boat, or get your spot on the cliff top to view the delights without the crowds. The finale on 27th August is always breathtaking. And whilst looking skywards, don't forget the annual Red Arrows Display that will be taking place on 17th August.
