The favourites in our search for the region’s most talented artists
Towards the end of last year we launched our search to find some of the region’s most talented artists, inviting entries in the first Derbyshire Life Landscape Painter of the Year 2016, and received an impressive response. As one of our judges, Mike Smith, commented: ‘The range of entries illustrates not only the amount and diversity of artistic talent in the county but also the inspiration provided by our varied local landscapes.’ Fellow judge Jonathan Wallis, Head of Museums and Museum & Art Gallery Development, Derby, noted: ‘It is great to see that Derbyshire’s rich heritage of landscape painting is alive and thriving in the work of local contemporary artists.’
After careful consideration by our judges we have chosen the following shortlist of 12 images. There will be an interview with our winning artist in next month’s issue.
