Emlyn Restaurant in Dorking joins forces with Bourneside art gallery
Every chef knows that diners tend to eat with their eyes so Emlyn’s chef, Nick Sinclair takes time and patience to ensure that every plate coming from his kitchens is, well, a touch of art on a plate.
Taking this one step further, Emlyn Restaurant is joining forces with premier local Dorking art gallery, Bourneside, to ensure that the restaurant itself reflects similar principles. Working with seven handpicked British artists, Emlyn Restaurant will soon be hung with a veritable cornucopia of landscapes, local birdlife and flowers from Bourneside’s stable of talent. The exhibition will be refreshed on a tri-annual basis.
Artists include Rob Barnes, Niki Bowers, Diana Croft (who lives and works in Dorking), Melvyn Evans, Robert Greenhalf, Mark A Pearce and Vicky Oldfield.
The Bourneside Gallery has been part of Dorking life since November 2012 and is run by husband and wife team, Judy and Pete Hill. Judy Hill said: “When we were approached by Emlyn’s about the prospect of showcasing a selection of our gallery’s work within the more residential setting of their restaurant, we saw it as an exciting opportunity. It was easy to see immediately how well the artists’ work would enhance the restaurant’s appeal, whilst at the same time having the benefit of two Dorking enterprises working together.”
Since the re-launch of the Emlyn Restaurant this spring under the toque of chef Nick Sinclair, the restaurant has been looking to align themselves with local enterprises to promote the vast wealth of talent there is in this county.

Tony Tijhuis, manager said: “I have long understood the power of art to bring an interior alive and we were searching for a local partner who understood and valued the idea of a local promotion. We believe we have found the perfect partner in Bourneside who have handpicked a highly-talented selection of local and regional British artists to enhance the restaurant’s walls and to bring a freshness and vitality to our setting.”
Emlyn’s serves a British contemporary menu and guests may choose to sit either on the terrace, overlooking Box Hill or in the spacious restaurant itself.
