It’s time to start snapping as we launch our photography competition in association with Yorebridge House.

Great British Life: Robin by Michelle HowellRobin by Michelle Howell (Image: MICHELLE HOWELL PHOTOGRAPHY)

Great photography doesn't always need expensive kit and careful planning. Take this lovely shot of curious sheep captured by hobbyist photographer, Lee Harris, near Harrogate. He was heading home from Coldstones and spotted this inquisitive bunch.

This lovely little robin, too, caught up close by Michelle Howell in her garden in Flockton, evokes up the most wonderful image of winter.

The examples on these pages are just some of the striking images submitted by Yorkshire Life readers in recent weeks which have now been entered into our 2020 hunt for the county's best amateur photographer.

The winner - which will be announced in our December issue - will get a two night luxury stay at the five star Yorebridge House in Bainbridge - rather brilliantly it's located in some of the most photogenic countryside our county has to offer. There will be champagne on arrival and cream tea, dinner on one night and a glorious picnic hamper on the second day with goodies to feast on while you find those perfect shots. Second and third prize winners will receive an afternoon tea voucher for Yorebridge House. The winning images will also feature in Yorkshire Life's 2021 calendar.

Dave Reilly, owner of Yorebridge House and one of the judges who will make the final selections, said: 'We're so pleased to be involved in this competition which showcases the fabulous landscapes of Yorkshire. There are so many beautiful picture-worthy places to discover.

'We're very lucky to have so many stunning locations and interesting places and people that provide striking settings for photographs. The grounds of Yorebridge House itself also offer up many wonderful opportunities at any time of year. We're delighted to be able to welcome the eventual winner of the Yorkshire Life Photography Competition to Yorebridge. We hope it inspires them as it does us.' u

Next month's theme is images that show your Yorkshire loves, whether person, place or panorama, it's up to you.
