Judges are busy choosing the winners of the Lancashire Life photography competition in association with Wilkinson Cameras
Lancashire Life picture editor John Cocks knows a good picture when he sees one – after all, he’s been taking them for this magazine for more than 30 years – but choosing just three from the thousands sent in for our annual competition is no easy task.
‘It’s very difficult indeed,’ he said in a break from sifting through the entries. ‘Some wonderful pictures will have to be left off the shortlist because the overall standard is so high. What is particularly pleasing this year is that there is a real variety of shots. Readers have not just been all over the region with their cameras but they have obviously been thinking about how they can make their pictures stand out from the rest and how they can find a different angle or make the best use of the light.’
John is joined on the judging panel by Lancashire Life editor Roger Borrell and David Parkinson, managing director of Wilkinson Cameras. The 12 shortlisted images will be considered for use in next year’s Lancashire Life calendar.
Once they have agreed on the shortlist, they will set about the even more difficult task of selecting a top three who will win wonderful prizes provided by competition sponsors Wilkinson Cameras.
The first prize winner will receive a Canon EOS 100D and EF-S 18-55 IS STM worth £479.99, second prize is a Canon Powershot S120 worth £399.99 and if your picture comes in third place you’ll win a Canon Powershot SX 510 worth £219.99 (all prices correct as of March 2014).
