Originally an imposing red brick town house, this five-star hotel in Mayfair is part of the Marriott group, which owns some of the finest hotels in the world.
Less than a minute’s walk from Oxford Street, Bond Street and Park Lane, it is within easy reach of high street anchor stores and high-end exclusive shops alike, making it ideal for a weekend shopping trip to town.
But it has much more going for it than just a great location.
The new deluxe Club Rooms are finished in an understated yet classy style that takes inspiration from the clean lines of art deco, with dark wood flooring and four-poster beds. Add to that a riot of pillows, goose and duck feather filled bed linen, 32inch flat-screen TVs, Wi-fi and a marble bathroom and you begin to get an idea of just how luxurious these rooms are.
Twelve rooms also have a courtyard terrace with open-air fireplaces, surrounding the central courtyard garden. And with the Club Rooms comes the relaxed Club Lounge – with complimentary food and drinks.

The hotel has two Gordon Ramsey restaurants – the Michelin-starred Maze and Maze grill. The Maze, open for lunch and dinner, specialises in French cuisine with an Asian twist, beautifully served in taster-size portions.
I had chorizo, fried anchovies, vinegar salt popcorn, crab salad, foi gras, and halibut with carrots and cumquats followed by lemon fruit ice cream – all delicious.
The restaurant, overlooking the square and designed by David Rockwell, has a central cocktail bar - manned by some of London’s best cocktail waiters of course - and a maze of separating panels that give the restaurant its name.
For those who want to dine with a difference, as I did, they can book the chef’s table in the kitchen where the Maze menu is served by head chef Jason Atherton and his staff of passionate – and slightly bonkers - experts, while the action of a busy working kitchen takes place in front of you. If you like to cook while entertaining in the same space – this is it on an industrial scale, and exciting and entertaining it is.
Next door to Maze, the more informal Maze Grill takes its inspiration from New York’s grill restaurants – and serves spectacularly good steaks from around the world as well as a fresh fish dishes.
Similarly to the Maze restaurant, there also is the chance to see behind the scenes by booking the butcher’s block table which seats up to 12 guests and has a view of the meat chefs at work.
Wherever you are seated, you will be guided through the five steaks served here, Casterbridge, Hereford, Aberdeen Angus, Creekstone and Wagyu - all expertly sourced for world-class quality and cooked over coal before sealing at a fearsome 650 degrees.
Maze Grill is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, while dining is also possible in your room from the Maze grill menu 24 hours a day.
Throughout the hotel, the staff, from the concierge to the chefs, waiters and room service, are courteous, enthusiastic and friendly and really do go out of their way to make your stay a memorable one.
All this does not come cheap of course, but for a holiday at home, a gift to someone special, or an exclusively located shopping base, the Marriott London Grosvenor Square Hotel is a place that will leave you feeling wonderfully pampered.
