This April, artists Angela Harding and Emma Mitchell bring a celebration of British songbirds to Snape Maltings through linocut and exquisite silver jewellery.
Angela is a professional print maker and painter inspired by British flora and fauna, with a particular focus on British birds. She works in lino and silkscreen as well as watercolour and acrylic on canvas.
Emma studied natural sciences and her fine silver work is drawn from sightings and sketches of birds and wild plants around her home on the edge of the Fens.
Both Emma’s and Angela’s current designs are studies of British birds, their nests, the trees they sing from and the songs themselves.
“Two to three weeks after the Snape exhibition, nightingales will begin to sing in Walberswick woods and several other sites near Snape,” said Emma. “We want the show to encourage people to enter a wood, walk up a path or stand near a hedge and listen to the voices of birds.”
The exhibition is at Snape Maltings on April 5 and 6 (coinciding with the farmers’ market) and Emma, who works in silverclay, and Angela will also be holding workshops on April 7 and 8, when you can make your own silver jewellery and linocuts.
