March 15 marks ‘500 days to go’ until the Olympic Games and tickets will go on sale on March 15.In Kent, the Kent 2012 campaign is keen to use the date to raise public awareness and celebrate the countdown to the Games and there are events happening across the county.Plans include: KCC Sport, Leisure and Olympics service is re-launching the Kent 2012 website on this date Making it Last (a Sittingbourne schools’ sustainability project inspired by the 2012 Games and the Olympic and Paralympic values), involving a selection of schools in the Swale Education District will see a series of workshops around 15 March to design a sustainable hotel. Athletics event is being held at K College, Tonbridge on this day. K College will also on this day be showcasing outputs from their ‘equality and diversity’ week that is taking place 7-11 March. Canterbury City Council is arranging for large photographs of Kent hopeful 2012 Olympic and Paralympic athletes to be displayed in some of the most high profile sites across Canterbury. Canterbury College will be holding ‘Feet on the Street’, an activity that involves students painting around their feet in various locations of the college, envisaging where they will be in 2012. North West Kent College will be holding a ‘taster day’ where they will offer students the opportunity to participate in sports that are less frequently offered such as boxing, fencing and archery. Gravesham Borough Council will be launching their Big Screen competition on 15 March, where Gravesham communities/businesses/parish councils/clubs etc are invited to propose what events they would arrange around the screen.
